Elk Grove - Galt CERT volunteers are involved with the community by volunteering our services to local community events. We provide volunteer services for First-aid and Traffic control as well as staffing our CERT Booth to educate the community about CERT. This gives our members the oportunity to practice the skills they have been trained on by the Cosumnes Fire department as well as the Elk Grove and Galt Police departments.
2011 has been the busiest year to date for the CERT Team. Our dedicated group of volunteers has been busy with re-peat events such as the Elk Grove Western Festival and the Galt Strawberry Festival as well as new events like the Spotlight at the Ranch - BBQ & Blues.
Below are the 2011 Elk Grove - Galt Community Events to date that the CERT Team volunteers have been present to provide the services listed above. A special thanks to all who volunteered!!!

Galt 4th of July Celebration July 2nd "First-Aid & CERT Booth" Hundreds of Galt residents turned out on Saturday, July 2nd to celebrate the Fourth of July and enjoy a spectacular fireworks display to rival all others in the area. This year’s celebration was the first sponsored by the city of Galt, as opposed to a Galt Festival enterprise. The celebration included some favorite traditions of the festival, including the invitation to all interested nonprofit organizations to set up booths and tables, for free, to do fundraising. With everything from good old-fashioned horseshoe and softball tournaments to good eats, sweet treats, live music and plenty of space to run, dance and play, guests at the celebration had much to enjoy.

Strauss Festival of Elk Grove Thursday, July 28th thru Sunday, 31st
“First-Aid & Traffic Control” The Strauss Festival of Elk Grove is an outdoor, free-to-the-public (except for $10 parking fee) staged dance production at Elk Grove Regional Park that has attracted more than 30,000 people annually since its inception in 1987. “Enchanting”, “magical”, and “romantic” are just a few adjectives commonly used to describe the evening performances, which each year feature a different choreographed storyline set to music by the family of Austrian composer Johann Strauss, played by a live orchestra. Brining the story to life are elegantly costumed dancers and elaborate handcrafted sets. Each performance ends with a fireworks display. Sacramento 9/11 Memorial September 11th, 2011 Downtown Sacramento
Elk Grove-Galt CERT team member were invited to join multiple regional CERT agencies in combining efforts to assist with the Sacramento 9/11 Memorial Tribute that took place on September 11th in downtown Sacramento. This special event was held to honor the10th anniversary of the 343 Firefighters of FDNY and all the victims that paid the ultimate sacrifice at the World Trade Center on September 11th, 2001.
The event included activities such as the Firefighter Climb to the top of the Renaissance Tower on K Street. Firefighters placed the name of a fallen brother on their turnout gear and carried it up to the top of the Renaissance Tower4 times to equal that of the 110 floors climbed on that day. Other activities included a 5k race and the Tribute in the Park in Capitol Mall area (including activities such as the Flag/Memorial Tribute, a band, fire rigs and speeches by the Governor and other dignitaries)
Sacramento CERT coordinated the volunteer efforts and did a great job of ensuring that everything was taken care of. EG-G CERT volunteers wasted no time in jumping in doing whatever was asked. From 0600-0800 members were grabbed as needed to help setup things such as fencing, tents, tables, chairs and a bouncy house for the kids. Once the event activity began, members were assigned specific tasks that ranged from collecting donations, performing crowd control, first-aid support as well as handing out thousands of US Flags for the Flag Tribute.
The closing ceremony was a very special event. Firefighters brought the platform and twin towers down from the top of the Renaissance Tower on K Street all the way over to Capitol Mall to the Flag Memorial where a ceremony was held. A very moving tribute to all of those lost on 9/11.
It’s hard to express in words the thanks to each of the EG-G CERT Team members in attendance.
